Best Air Purifier for a Small Apartment: 6 Compact Picks
Six compact HEPA air purifiers for studios and small apartments, with each maker's coverage, CADR, noise and footprint, and how to size one for an open plan.
Short answerFor a studio or small one-bedroom, pick one compact purifier sized for the main room rather than several tiny ones: the Coway Airmega Mighty2 Mini is the quiet all-rounder, with a smoke CADR of 143 and a lowest published noise of 19.2 dB. The Levoit Core 300-P and Coway Airmega 100 each stand on an 8.7-inch square of floor, and the slim Coway Airmega 160 sits flat against a wall.

How to size a purifier for a small apartment
- Measure the room the purifier will live in. In a studio that is the whole open space; in a one-bedroom it is usually the living area by day and the bedroom by night.
- EPA's advice is to choose a portable air cleaner with a clean air delivery rate (CADR) large enough for the size of the room, and says the higher the CADR, the larger the area it can serve.
- Makers' room sizes are not comparable on their own. Coway and Levoit quote one figure at one air change an hour and a smaller one at more air changes; Medify quotes how much space a unit can clean in 30 minutes. Compare the same basis, or compare CADR.
- EPA notes that an air cleaner filters less air at a lower speed, so a unit sized with room to spare can run quietly and still keep up.
- EPA says to avoid air cleaners that intentionally produce ozone, a lung irritant. Every pick here is a filter-based unit.
Footprint and noise in a small space
- In a studio the purifier is in the room you sleep in, so the lowest published noise figure matters. All six picks list a lowest setting between about 19 and 26 dB; higher speeds are louder.
- Floor space is tight in a small apartment. The Levoit Core 300-P and Coway Airmega 100 are each 8.7 by 8.7 in across, and the Coway Airmega 160 is 6.5 in deep, by the makers' figures.
- Keep the intake and outlet clear of curtains and furniture, and check the price and life of replacement filters before you buy.

How we chose
This guide is desk research. We compared each maker's own product page (CADR, room coverage, noise and dimensions) with EPA's Guide to Air Cleaners in the Home, and kept filter-based units small enough for a studio or one-bedroom apartment. We did not test any of these purifiers; the figures are the makers' own, and a listing describes what its seller says, not how a unit performs in your home.
Listings, sellers and stock change quickly. At time of writing (November 7, 2026), every "Check price on Amazon" button on this page went to an exact Amazon listing for the product named that the Amazon product data showed as new and in stock, sold by Amazon.com or by the brand's own store; a "Search Amazon for" button means no such listing was confirmed, so check the seller and model on the results page. Prices are not shown because they change.
