A pimple patch can mention salicylic acid without showing a Drug Facts panel, and a plain hydrocolloid patch can sit beside an OTC acne-drug patch under the same retail search term. To make that difference visible, we checked 30 exact products across 20 brands using current U.S. brand pages and DailyMed label records.
The main finding: 12 products in the sample had a matching DailyMed OTC acne-drug label record. Eighteen did not have a Drug Facts panel on the checked official page or a matching product-name-plus-brand result in our DailyMed query. That second group is not one uniform category: eight pages described added ingredients, eight described hydrocolloid without a Drug Facts panel, one explicitly said drug-free, and one explicitly said it had no active ingredients.
Important: “No Drug Facts found” is an evidence statement, not a legal classification. It does not prove that a product is a cosmetic, drug-free or unmedicated. We use those stronger descriptions only where the brand itself made the claim.
The four evidence groups
| Evidence group | Products | What we verified |
|---|---|---|
| DailyMed OTC acne-drug label | 12 | An exact DailyMed Structured Product Label with salicylic acid and an open-ended marketing record on the verification date |
| Added-ingredient claim; no matching Drug Facts found | 8 | The official page named added ingredients, but did not display Drug Facts and did not produce a product-plus-brand DailyMed match |
| Hydrocolloid claim; no matching Drug Facts found | 8 | The official page described hydrocolloid without a Drug Facts panel or matching product-plus-brand DailyMed result |
| Explicit drug-free or no-active claim | 2 | The official brand page itself used “drug-free” or “no active ingredients” wording |
All 30 pimple patches and their checked evidence
Product names link to the exact primary source. “Added ingredient” means the ingredient appeared in brand copy; it does not convert that marketing statement into a Drug Facts active. Counts and wear directions are included only when the checked page published them.

What the label patterns reveal
Salicylic acid appeared on both sides of the Drug Facts divide
All 12 DailyMed OTC labels named salicylic acid. Seven more official pages marketed salicylic acid as an ingredient without presenting a matching Drug Facts panel in the sources we checked. Ingredient presence alone therefore does not tell a shopper which evidence trail the exact product uses.
Among the 11 DailyMed records with a clear percentage, eight were 0.5%, two were 2% and one was 1%. We did not convert the remaining Spot On Acne Patch record: DailyMed’s structured field says 1.24 g per patch, while its package image and RxNorm text say 0.5%. The public page also marks the NDC inactivated despite an open-ended marketing record. Reporting the disagreement is more accurate than choosing one value.
A brand name does not determine the patch type
Hero Cosmetics supplied all three examples inside one range: Mighty Patch Original explicitly said drug-free, Invisible+ described hydrocolloid without Drug Facts, and the Early-Stage product named salicylic acid in a micropoint design without displaying Drug Facts. COSRX similarly spanned plain hydrocolloid and an ingredient-added Intensive version.
Wear instructions were not standardized
Nine products specified six to eight hours or at least six hours, nine mentioned overnight wear, and nine published no fixed duration in the checked source. Curology’s own support page said 6–12 hours while a separate brand article said 6–24 hours. Readers should follow the exact current package rather than transferring directions from a similar-looking patch.
How to classify the patch in your hand
- Match the exact product name and variant. Original, Invisible, Intensive and Early-Stage versions from the same brand can use different evidence and ingredients.
- Look for a Drug Facts panel. If present, read the active ingredient, purpose, warnings and directions there before marketing copy.
- Separate an ingredient list from Drug Facts. A page that says “with salicylic acid” is not the same evidence as an OTC active line with a strength.
- Do not infer “drug-free.” Use that phrase only when the exact brand page or package says it.
- Check the current package. Pages and databases can lag packaging changes, and our audit found two source disagreements.
This audit does not compare healing speed, irritation, adhesion or clinical outcomes. For selection by store, region or skin needs, use the separate HomeWise guides to drugstore pimple patches, Korean pimple patches, Japanese pimple patches and pimple patches for sensitive skin. Those pages answer purchase-intent questions; this page audits label identity.

Selection: We deliberately sampled national acne-care brands, specialist patch brands, K-beauty ranges and recent DailyMed OTC patch records. The sample was stratified to capture plain hydrocolloid, ingredient-added hydrocolloid, micropoint or microdart designs and exact OTC labels. It is not market-share weighted and is not every patch sold in the United States.
Collection: For OTC rows, we fetched the exact Structured Product Label through the official DailyMed v2 API and retained label date, ingredient, strength, directions, warnings, packager and marketing dates. For brand rows, we checked the exact current U.S. page and queried DailyMed using the product name, then required a brand match before treating a result as the same product.
Classification: A row entered the DailyMed group only with a matching OTC label. “Drug-free” and “no active ingredients” were reserved for explicit brand wording. All remaining rows state exactly what was found—hydrocolloid or named added ingredients—and exactly what was not found: a Drug Facts panel on the checked page or a matching product-plus-brand DailyMed result.
Limitations: “No Drug Facts found” is not a legal determination, and DailyMed is not a retail-stock database. Current packages may change after verification. We did not buy, wear, touch, smell or clinically test any patch, and we did not assess safety or efficacy. Follow the exact package and seek a qualified professional for persistent, severe, painful or infected acne.
