A tube that says “latex-free” can sit beside a same-brand black formula whose current ingredient list starts with rubber latex. We checked 30 current consumer false-lash adhesives and adhesive liners one exact formula at a time, because the brand name, shade and package family are not reliable shortcuts.

Twenty of the 30 exact-product sources explicitly said latex-free or no latex. Seven listed or declared latex, and three published no explicit latex claim that we could retain. Thirteen explicitly said formaldehyde-free, but that wording is recorded as a label or seller claim, not proof from HomeWise testing.

Main finding: formula identity mattered more than brand. KISS Aloe Clear explicitly says latex-free while KISS Aloe Black declares latex; Velour’s clear Glue & Go says latex-free while its black product is explicitly a Black Latex Formula. Never transfer a free-from claim from a nearby shade or variant.

Exact-product latex disclosure across 30 current consumer adhesives, checked 31 August 2026. Ingredient-list silence was not converted into a latex-free claim.

What the label audit found

  • 20 of 30 explicitly said latex-free. This class requires visible free-from wording on the retained exact-product source.
  • Seven listed or declared latex. These include KISS Aloe Black, KISS Couture Super Flex Oat Clear, DUO Original Clear and Dark, Velour Black Latex, Sweed, and J.Cat Waterproof.
  • Three had no explicit latex claim found. DUO Active Black, PÜR PRO, and NYX Jumbo Lash were left in this honest middle state. An ingredient list that does not print “latex” is not automatically a latex-free certification.
  • 13 explicitly said formaldehyde-free. We preserve that wording as a claim. We do not turn it into laboratory evidence.
  • 28 of 30 retained pages published an ingredient list. The two L.A. COLORS pages made latex-free claims but did not publish a full ingredient list on the retained brand page.
  • Seven products printed numeric wear claims. The figures ran from 9 to 48 hours, with a median of 24. Those are seller claims, not measured HomeWise performance.

False-lash glue labels: all 30 exact products

This table describes current source language, not allergy safety or comparative performance. “No claim found” means exactly that: the retained exact-product source did not make the explicit claim. It does not mean the ingredient is present or absent.

Why the exact formula matters

The strongest result is not a league table. It is a warning against brand-level shortcuts. KISS Aloe Clear and KISS Aloe Black sit in the same family but make opposite latex disclosures. Velour’s clear and black products do the same. A search snippet or recommendation that says a brand’s “lash glue” is latex-free can therefore be wrong for the exact shade in your basket.

DUO makes the source problem even clearer. Its current official Brush-On Clear page says formaldehyde- and latex-free. A current distributor listing repeats that sentence while also printing Rubber Latex and Formaldehyde in the ingredient panel. That could reflect stale copy, old inventory, a regional formula or a page error. The honest result is “source conflict,” not a guess.

What “formaldehyde-free” does: and does not: tell you

Thirteen rows make an explicit formaldehyde-free claim. This audit confirms only that the claim appears on the retained current source. It does not confirm chemical absence. A peer-reviewed 2022 study of 37 eyelash glues found detectable formaldehyde release in two of 15 consumer adhesives that did not declare formaldehyde and in 15 of 20 professional glues. The present 30 products were not the study sample. A June 2026 Danish Environmental Protection Agency report likewise treats beauty adhesives as a product category requiring chemical survey and risk assessment.

That is also why professional extension glues and multi-day cluster bonds were excluded. Their application, chemistry, exposure and wear instructions are not interchangeable with consumer day-wear strip adhesive.

How to use the audit before buying

  1. Match the exact name and shade. “Clear,” “dark,” “black latex,” “active,” and “brush-on” can be different formulas.
  2. Read the current package as well as the page. A retailer or search result can lag a reformulation. Keep the lot/package information if you have reacted before.
  3. Separate a claim from an omission. Choose an explicit free-from statement if that disclosure matters to you; do not infer it from a short ingredient list.
  4. Notice the format. DUO Line It, NYX Jumbo Lash, and Glamnetic Hybrid are adhesive liners, not conventional bottle glues.
  5. Treat hour figures as marketing ceilings. The seven numeric claims span 9–48 hours, but removal, tears, humidity, skin preparation and band weight can change real wear.

HomeWise Research methodology

  • Research date: 31 August 2026.
  • Hands-on testing performed by HomeWise: No.
  • Sample: 30 current English-language consumer day-wear strip-lash adhesives and adhesive liners; 27 direct adhesives and three adhesive liners.
  • Excluded: professional extension glues, multi-day cluster bonds, and products without a retained exact current source.
  • Preferred evidence: exact brand product pages; a current major retailer was used when it supplied the exact variant disclosure. Each table row links its retained primary source.
  • Classification rule: “explicit latex-free” requires visible exact-product wording; “lists or declares latex” requires the current source to name it; all other rows remain “no explicit claim found.”
  • Conflict rule: contradictory current sources are reported, not silently reconciled.
  • Wear calculation: the median uses the seven printed numeric hour claims only. It describes marketing language, not tested adhesion.

Limitations

Formulas, packaging, claims and availability can change, and regional versions can differ. Retailer pages may lag current inventory. This audit does not diagnose allergy, prove chemical absence, or establish that a product is suitable for sensitive eyes. Patch-test and removal instructions also vary by product; follow the current package. If you have a known allergy, eye condition or previous adhesive reaction, ask an appropriate medical professional about the exact formula rather than relying on a cross-brand web audit.
