30 current DailyMed sunscreen-stick labels checked

Research completed and last verified 22 August 2026. Primary sources: 30. Additional sources: 0. Research type: Original data study. Hands-on testing performed by HomeWise: No.

Chart showing ten of 30 sunscreen stick labels with an 80-minute water-resistance direction, three with 40 minutes, and 17 with no exact duration located
Exact water-resistance durations located across 30 diverse DailyMed sunscreen-stick records.

Sunscreen sticks look comparable on a shelf, but their net contents and Drug Facts directions vary sharply. We assembled a diverse 30-label DailyMed sample, normalized every net weight to grams, classified the active filters, and recorded the exact 40- or 80-minute water-resistance direction when one was located.

The headline finding: the median stick contained 15 g, while the smallest checked record was 4.2 g and the largest was 78 g—an 18.6-fold range. Twenty of 30 formulas were mineral-only, nine chemical-only and one hybrid. Ten labels gave an 80-minute water-resistance direction, three gave 40 minutes, and 17 gave no exact duration in the checked fields.

Size and label findings at a glance

Measure Result
Minimum net contents 4.2 g
Median net contents 15 g
Average net contents 20.64 g
Maximum net contents 78 g
Mineral-only filters 20 of 30
Exact water-resistance duration located 13 of 30

The average is higher than the median because a few large packages pull it upward. Median is the more useful description of a typical record in this sample. Net contents do not reveal coverage, glide, residue or number of full applications.

All 30 sunscreen-stick records

We deliberately removed repeated scent packages and near-identical white-label records, then retained distinct brand/product records and active-filter combinations. Names link to exact DailyMed sources. Blank SPF cells mean a clean number was not located in the display fields, not that the product has no labeled SPF.

What the numbers mean in practice

Compare grams, not just the height of the tube

Two packages that appear similarly portable may contain very different amounts. The label-backed range here is wide enough that net grams should be checked whenever value or trip length matters. We did not collect price because a stable, like-for-like current price was not available across every label record; price per gram would otherwise create false precision.

Mineral-only dominated this selected label sample

Twenty formulas listed zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide without a chemical filter. Nine used chemical filters only, and one combined mineral and chemical filters. This classification says nothing about white cast, comfort or application quality, which require product-specific evidence or testing.

Stick format does not guarantee a water-resistance duration

Thirteen labels gave an exact duration; 17 did not in the checked record fields. The package instructions for the exact stick should decide use around swimming and sweating. Do not transfer a duration from another product by the same brand.

A practical decision matrix

If you care most about Use this field Do not infer
Portability or how soon it may run out Net weight in grams Applications from package size alone
Mineral versus chemical filters Drug Facts active ingredients Comfort, cast or sensitivity
Swimming or sweating Exact 40/80-minute direction Duration from SPF number
Face or eye-area control Exact package directions That every stick is designed for every area

For use-case recommendations, compare the HomeWise SPF guide for hands, chest and neck, sunscreens for around the eyes and scalp and hairline SPF guide.

HomeWise Research methodology

  • Research completed: 22 August 2026
  • Products/data points checked: 30 sunscreen-stick label records
  • Primary sources consulted: 30 exact DailyMed labels
  • Additional sources: 0
  • Research type: Original data study
  • Hands-on testing performed by HomeWise: No
  • Last verified: 22 August 2026

Selection: We searched current DailyMed sunscreen-stick records, then selected 30 records dated February 2025 through August 2026. We removed lip balms, multiproduct kits, repeated scents, duplicate bilingual packaging and a cluster of identical white-label mineral sticks. The retained sample emphasizes distinct products, labelers and active-filter patterns.

Collection and calculations: Net contents were taken from structured package quantities or principal-display text and converted to grams where necessary. With 30 sorted values, the median is the mean of positions 15 and 16. Filter and water-resistance classifications use the same rules described in the table.

Limitations: This is a purposive U.S. label study, not a full retail census. DailyMed does not establish stock, price or package freshness. The 78 g maximum includes a larger paste-format record returned by the stick search. We did not weigh, swipe, apply, count passes, measure coverage or evaluate cast. No “best” product is declared.

See the face-sunscreen water-resistance audit for a separate 40-product format comparison, or return to the HomeWise skincare hub.
